Course objectives
The course aims to provide students with practical training. The students are deployed to departments of primary, secondary and tertiary care, according to study plan (see table - Schedule of practical training). Practical training takes place under supervision of mentors of clinical practice in cooperation with guarantors of clinical practice at the Institute of Nursing. (Each guarantor of practical training teaches such field of practical training as is his/her specialization, and at the same time is responsible for clinical supervision of students during this practical training.) Clinical departments for teaching and practical training of students are selected in accordance to given standards. The course introduces working at individual clinical departments and wards. During practical training, the student works at standard nursing wards, at intensive care units, as well as special nursing units. The student learns to classify differences of nursing care of various ill people, the handicapped and dying patients. After finishing the course, the student will be able to work at individual clinical wards using the method of nursing process under supervision of a mentor. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: The student is able to apply theoretical knowledge acquired in specialized courses in practice. Professional skills: The student is able to diagnose nursing problems, to make nursing diagnosis according to NANDA classification, to plan nursing care, to choose suitable nursing interventions and to evaluate achieved results. The student is able to follow basic principles of nursing care (prevention of nosocomial infection, personal hygiene, prevention of complications of long term confinement to bed and other). The student is able to provide nursing care adequately (medicine administration, care of defecation, monitoring of fluid balance, care of breathing, food intake and other). General ability: The student is able to provide patients suffering from selected disease with qualified specialized nursing care based on latest knowledge. The student improves and perfects these skills in clinical practice. Competence: required competences acquired during practical training are in conformity with Regulation num. 55/2011 Sb. about medical staff activity.
Syllabus
  • Fields of specialized practical training:
    1st year: Practical training is focused on the field of health support and prevention of disease development - primary care. Students learn about structure of primary care services and individual types of facilities of primary care. They learn to assess environment (material and social) which people live in, risks for their health; they learn types of diseases which occur in given environment with the need of preventive measures and methods of health education both individual and group. They learn basic nursing skills.
