The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the course Psychiatry for the Helping Professions, is to acquaint students with psychiatric issues, both general and special. The general part is also focused on the development of psychiatry as a separate discipline and its relationship to other disciplines, ethical issues, investigative methods, etc. A special section is devoted to psychopathology diseases, causes of mental disorders, developmental model (neuro-psycho-social), etc. The individual disorders are presented according to the International Classification of Diseases.
Syllabus
  • 1. Psychiatry. Classification of mental disorders.
    2. Basic concepts in psychiatry.
    3. Organic mental disorders.
    4. Mental and behavioral disorders due to psychoactive substances.
    5. Schizophrenia, schizophrenic and delusional disorders.
    6. Mood disorders (affective disorders).
    7. Neurotic disorders, disorders caused by stress and somatoform disorders.
    8. Behavioral syndromes associated with physiological disturbances and physical factors.
    9. Personality disorders and behavior in adults.
    10. Mental retardation. Disorders of psychological development.
    11. Disorders of behavior and emotion in childhood and adolescence.
    12. Biological treatments in psychiatry - pharmacotherapy, electroconvulsive therapy.
    13. Psychological therapies in psychiatry (psychotherapy).
    14. Resocialization and rehabilitation psychiatry.
    15. Acute Conditions in Psychiatry. Mental and behavioral disorders associated with confinement.
    16. Legal issues in psychiatry.
    17. Organization of psychiatric care.
