The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
One of a term aim of the course is to acquaint students with anthropology as a comprehensive science of man. Special attention is paid to the descriptive and functional anatomy of the skeletal system (human osteology) with reference to the most common pathological changes of locomotive system. Moreover, students are familiar with the methods of anthropological treatment of human skeletal remains (polling, laboratory treatment, estimate gender and age, metric evaluation) and the basics palaeodemography and Evolutionary Anthropology (phylogeny man and his ancestors). The course also includes exercises in which students apply the acquired knowledge on anthropological material.

  • 1 / Introduction to the study of anthropology. Inclusion of Anthropology in the science system. Distribution of the sub-disciplines of anthropology. A Brief History of World and Czech anthropology
    2 / orientation of the human body. Basic anatomical terminology.
    3 / Human osteology - the construction of the trunk (chest and spine)
    4 / human osteology - the construction of the upper and lower limbs
    5 / Human osteology - the construction of the skull
    6 / Skeletal Anthropology - types of burial rite, picking up the skeletal material
    7 / Skeletal Anthropology - aspektivní evaluation of skeletal material
    8 / Skeletal Anthropology - metric evaluation of skeletal material
    9 / Skeletal Anthropology - methods to estimate gender on skeletal material
    10 / Skeletal Anthropology - methods to estimate the age of the skeletal material
    11 / Practice I.
