Course objectives
The course broadens and deepens theoretical knowledge of cultural history and heritage in practical and organizational terms. It introduces chosen topics, cultural and historical events and destinations of the Czech-Polish/Austrian/German/Slovak border regions, or events and destinations with an international context presented by memory institutions (museums, open-air museums, installed objects), public and private entities (cultural and leisure facilities, etc.) at home or abroad, or on both sides of the border. It allows knowledge and comparison of different concepts of presentation, technical support, guide practice, or different interpretations depending on historical experience. It leads to students' independent thinking and self-interpretation resulting in the proposal of an alternative project/programme for the presentation, animation and interpretation of selected cultural and historical themes. The course is organized in cooperation with professional institutions focusing on activities related to the presentation and education of cultural heritage at home and in border areas. Students can participate in ongoing project activities. Examples of the thematic focus of the practice: the Broumov region and Czeski kątek; Hradec nad Moravicí and Racibórz; Urban reserves in Podyjí/Waldviertl.
