Course objectives
The course builds on the course Literature in Intermedia Perspective I and introduces literature in Intermedia Perspective in blocks devoted to the issues of modern art, modern music and film.
Learning outcomes
The student will gain an overview of the forms of relations between modern literature, modern art and film.
Syllabus
  • 1. Fine art of the 19th century and literature - fictional elaboration of biographies of famous artists, origin, development and significance of bibliophily, book collecting and development of ex-libris, literary creation and preservation in   19. century
  • 2. Fine art of the 20th century, transposition of motifs from the literary sphere, program texts initiating the emergence of art movements, literary salons and their influence on art culture, development of art criticism, the relationship between literary and architectural creation, outline of individual directions and movements (Art Nouveau, Expressionism , cubism, futurism, dadaism, abstract expressionism and lyrical abstraction)
  • 3. The relationship between music and literature in modern classical music
  • 4. The relationship between literature and music in world and Czech popular music
  • 5. Music in literature. Introduction
  • 6. Music in literature. Basic problems
  • 7. The relationship between literature and film. Film speech vs. the language of literature
  • 8. What is a film adaptation of a literary work? Adaptation models
