Course objectives
The goal of the course is unification of secondary school knowledge in general, inorganic and organic chemistry, and necessary extension of secondary school knowledge.
Syllabus
  • Chemistry and its importance. Basic chemical concepts. Atoms, elements, molecules, compounds. Pure substances, mixtures. Compound system, solutions. Chemical calculations. Amount of substance (chemical amount).
    Structure of the atom, atomic nucleus, electron shell. Ions. Isotopes.
    Chemical bond, the basic types of chemical bonds.
    Chemical reactions and their types. Oxidation-reduction reactions. Redox potential.
    Periodic table of elements. Kinetics and equilibrium reactions. Electrolysis. Electrolytic dissociation. Ionic equation. Acids, bases, salts. pH - measure of the acidity or basicity.
    Basic non-metallic elements (hydrogen, oxygen, halogens, sulphur, nitrogen, phosphorus). Oxides. Water. Impact on the environment.
    Metals, their occurrence, production principles. Use in industry. Impact on the environment.
    Overview of organic chemistry. Carbon chain links. Hydrocarbons and their derivatives. Aromatic compounds. Organic acids and their derivatives. The effect of organic carbon on the environment.

Teacher's information
Semestral exam has two parts: (1) Written exam consisting of four examples from each of which is evaluated by a maximum of 5 points. To proceed to the oral examination, at least 10 points (max of 20) is to be achieved. All typical examples will be addressed during the course. (2) Oral examination of the content of the semester curriculum.
