Course objectives
The aim of the one-semester course is to provide students not only with the results of archaeological research, but primarily with issues related to this topic. Various examples are demonstrated in situations that may assist in solving the problems associated with the archaeological field research and their interpretations. The course should provide a basis for understanding and for discussion.
Syllabus
  • 1. Definition of the term "Czech Silesia" for the needs of archeology, the current state of knowledge, literature on the topic.
    2. A differentiated state of research in the western and eastern parts of the Czech Silesia and its causes.
    3. History of research west of the Oder River before coming to Opava V. Karger artistically - industrial (now of the Silesian Museum).
    4. beginnings of archeology in Eastern Silesia and the importance of personality Bukovanského K. J. and K. J. masks; stagnation of research in this part of the region in the first half. 20th century.
    5. season action V. Karger and G. Stumpf at the Provincial Museum as the supreme stage of prewar Silesian archeology.

    8. The post-revolutionary changes, the situation Silesian archeology in the 90s and its prospects. A brief comparison of the development of research in today's Czech and Polish Silesia, the issue českopolské archaeological cooperation in the region.
