The aim of the seminar is to analyze and interpret selectde works of Czech historiography of the 19th and 20th centuries.

  • 1. František Palackýs conceptualization of Cezech history - the introduction and a selected chapter form his work
    2. Liberal historiography of the 19th century and its protagonists (Tomeks introduction to his History of Prague)
    3. Organization of historical research in the Bohemian lands till 1914
    4. Positivist and materialist innovations
    5. The dispute on the sense of Czech history
    6. Jaroslav Golls pupils - Golls school of history?
    7. Marxist historiography in the interwar period (Jan Slavíks intepretation of the Hussite movement)
    8. German historiography in the Bohemian Lands
    9. Marxist historiography in communist Czechoslovakia
    10. Reflection and influence of the Annales School in Czech historiography
    11. Microhistory and historical anthropology in Czech historiography (Josef Petráň)
    12. Postmodernist influences in Czech historiography (linguistic mehtos, the return of the narrative)
