TYP_STUDIA(B)
Student must submit current medical certificate of his medical fitness for work in the laboratory of conservation center, where he works and manipulates with chemicals (acids, bases, volatile substances etc.)and uses chemical-physical instruments.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is a thorough acquaintance of students with the issue of conservation and restoration of museum collection items made of textiles, leather and parchment, other organic materials of plant and animal origin, plastics and photographic material. Attention will also be paid to the preparation Methods, research, preventive and remediation conservation and restoration of artifacts from the above materials will be discussed. Students apply theoretical knowledge in practical exercises and seminar papers.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to theoretically design and practically perform: - intervention documentation - survey of objects - draw up a proposal for intervention - cleaning, conservation and restoration - imposition with emphasis on the principles of preventive conservation

  • 1. Organic materials and their essence. 2. Collagen materials. 3. Properties, degradation and research of leather and parchment. 4. Conservation and restoration procedures for leather and parchment. 5. Textile as a material. 6. Properties and degradation of textiles. 7. Conservation and restoration procedures for textiles. 8. Properties, degradation and conservation of other materials of animal origin. 9. Properties, degradation and conservation of other materials of plant origin. 10. Specifics of care for collections of natural products - basic procedures in preparation. 11. Properties, degradation and preservation procedures for plastics. 12. Properties, degradation and conservation procedures for photographs. 13. Special conservation techniques.
