Course objectives
Theory of selection, methods of implementation in the museum. Definition of terms museum, museum pieces, the museum's collection, sub-collection. Forms and methods of selection in the practical activities of museums. The importance of documentation. Active and passive selection. The systematic arrangement of collections - building information system - a thesaurus. The importance of expert scientific documentation for the preservation of collections. Creating a thesaurus information collection, evaluation collections. Use of IT for processing collections of source and use of collections. Methods of destruction of collections and their use in practice. Cataloging and technical documentation. Principles for the storage and preservation of collections in the repositories. Management of collections (collections management plan) - method for rapid and operative arrangement of collections at the museum.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: - identify and describe the forms and methods of selection in the practical activities of museums - evaluate the content of collections - describe the principles for the storage and preservation of collections in depositories
Syllabus
  • Creating Collections
    Collections as an essential element values in the museum culture. Specifications and specialization according to the typology of museums as part of the construction process thesauration. Creating collections, structures and compositions in a historical context, the current basis. Evaluation reports for strategic planning. In the seminar part of the work will be awarded to selected topics.
