Course objectives
Students gain theoretical knowledge of sustainable development of environment and cultural heritage.
Syllabus
  • 1. Cultural and historical heritage - landscape heritage , tangible cultural heritage , intangible cultural heritage. Cultural heritage and the environment.
    2. The exponential growth of human population and material consumption. The main driver of population growth.
    3. Economic growth in developed and developing countries. The impact of human population growth on the environment. Demographic forecasts.
    4. Global environmental problems of the environment. Climate change . Lack of drinking water. Thinning of the ozone layer in the stratosphere.
    5. Acidification and eutrophication of ecosystems. The decline in biodiversity. Deforestation . Soil degradation. Water pollution. Waste production . Air pollution.
    6. Sustainable society and sustainable development.
    7. Cultural Heritage and the four pillars of sustainability - economy , society, environment, and culture.
    8. Environmental dimension of sustainable development indicators (ecological footprint). Carrying capacity of the environment.
    9. Indicators of sustainability. Graph of indicators: the driving force, load, status, impact reply.
    10. Legislative ensure the protection of cultural heritage, nature and landscape, the environment in the country.
    11. Major international agreements on the protection of cultural heritage, nature and landscape environment. The European Convention for the Protection of the landscape. Biosphere reserves, Man and Biosphere Programme.
    12. Sustainable development and rural landscapes. Ecomuseum as a tool for sustainable development of cultural heritage, society and landscape. Model of ecomuseum.
