Course objectives
The goal of the subject is to acquaint students with the functions of the components in personal computers. The lectures are focused on the solutions common in the practice.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
- apply data recovery procedures unavailable by conventional means;
- use the methods of forensic analysis for non-destructive data acquisition for use in evidence;
- use tools to retrieve data from storage media;
understands methods and resources for securing some devices, social networks and other Internet services, including encryption.
Syllabus
  • 1. History of Computing technology. Computer structure, BIOS, UEFI.
  • 2. Connectors and interfaces.
  • 3. Motherboard, chipset, bus.
  • 4. Processors. Processor architectures, instruction sets, methods of instruction processing, various types of processors.
  • 5. Memory.
  • 6. Storage - hard drive, optical media, flash media, SSD. RAID.
  • 7. I/O devices.
  • 8. Expansion cards - graphic, audio, network.
  • 9. Power and cooling.
  • 10. Basic maintenance and diagnostics of a computer.
