Course objectives
The course provides basic knowledge about cultural tourism as a modern form of leisure and educational activities, focusing on cultural traditions and their role in the present. It emphasizes those cultural tourism trends that focus on the exploring cultural history, monuments and artefacts (ecclesiastical/religious, castellological, urban, rural, industrial, mining, etc.). Attention is paid to the potential of culture, cultural history/heritage and the limits of their use in the context of their protection against devastation, and conversely to the contribution of tourism and leisure activities to the preservation, reconstruction and development of tangible/architectural and intangible historical monuments. It outlines possibilities for effective use of cultural heritage in the field of specific forms of tourism (so-called accessible tourism for people with specific needs and requirements, event and congress tourism). It focuses on international cooperation and institutional partnership in the creation of cultural tourism products. It takes into account specifics of cultural tourism in cross-border regions and illustrates examples of good practice (tourist trails, travel agency products, information centres, etc.).
