Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce key aspects of local politics within the political system of the Czech Republic. Municipal and regional self-government will be presented, and its role in political processes in the Czech Republic will be analyzed. Attention will also be given to municipal and regional elections (the theory of second-order elections), local party systems, and related topics. Students will acquire basic knowledge of local politics and will be able to navigate political processes at the municipal and regional levels.
Learning outcomes
The student will understand the key aspects of local politics within the political system of the Czech Republic, including the functioning of municipal and regional self-government and their role in political processes. They will acquire knowledge of municipal and regional elections, the theory of second-order elections, and local party systems. They will be able to analyze the position of local institutions within the political system, interpret election results, and navigate political processes at the municipal and regional levels.
