Course objectives
The lectures will focus on selected problems of the development of Czech culture, or cultural policies as tools for influencing social consciousness and behavior. Individual topics reflect changes in Czech culture and society from 1938 to the 1980s; in principle, they will touch on the institutional background of culture, the control of culture and art from the point of view of political and ideological intentions, the relationship between culture and the media, the problems of continuity and discontinuity of culture.
Learning outcomes
The lectures will focus on selected problems of the development of Czech culture, or cultural policies as tools for influencing social consciousness and behavior. Individual topics reflect changes in Czech culture and society from 1938 to the 1980s; in principle, they will touch on the institutional background of culture, the control of culture and art from the point of view of political and ideological intentions, the relationship between culture and the media, the problems of continuity and discontinuity of culture.
