- Course objectives
- The course provides students with practical advice and theoretical information on the procedures of thesis assignment, elaboration of its parts, submission of the thesis and the thesis defense. Students can discuss the choice of subject matter, research questions, research methods, data processing, evaluation of acquired data etc. The course is based on active consultations. Learning outcomes: Professional knowledge: On completion of the course the student will be able to: a) understand the requirements placed on the quality and formal arrangement of bachelor thesis, b) explain the importance of adequate literature and resource management and to explain correct citing practices, c) summarize the requirements of preparation for consultations with thesis supervisors. Professional skills: The student will be able to: a) phrase their research topic, b) generate theoretical and empirical objectives and research questions, c) actively look up current research within EBP (evidence-based practice), d) design and conduct a basic research project with guidance, e) outline practical solution for a selected issue in the defined target population, f) effectively prepare a PPT presentation for the thesis defense. General ability: The graduate is able to design and conduct basic empirical research, to elaborate an empirically oriented nursing project and to implement evidence base in their research efforts and clinical practice. The graduate is able to participate in more complex research projects in clinical nursing practice. They demonstrate generic skills for nursing research. Competence: The graduates of General/Adult Nurse study are prepared for particular nurse roles, including researcher and innovator roles. They are able to design, conduct, present and defend a simple project.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction - relevance of bachelor thesis to graduate competences in Nursing studies (Adult Nurse). Choice of subject fields for bachelor thesis.
2. Study resources, literature overview and research, citations, evidence-based practice, bibliographic databases and digital collections.
3. Structure and content of bachelor thesis: choice of topic, phrasing the thesis title, stages of writing, outline, annotation, body of thesis, methodology, empirical research, discussion and conclusion.
4. Supervision, co-operation of the student with thesis supervisor.
5. Formal aspects of bachelor thesis: structuring of text, segmentation and numbering of chapters, layout, frequency tables, charts, image copyright, appendices, abbreviation list etc.
6. Preparation for thesis defense.
Students chose the subject of their thesis and their supervisors independently or based on the topics suggested by the faculty. If the student decides to conduct field research in the practical part of the thesis, they will consult the CER (Centre for Empirical Research) to clarify methodology, data evaluation and interpretation.

- Attendance in a minimum of 80 per cent of seminars is required for completion. Students fill in and submit a bachelor thesis assignment form signed by thesis supervisor and the head of the Institute of nursing. Thesis topic must be approved and further project work may follow.
