Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course aims to provide students with basic information in genetics. It describes the structure and function of amino acids and proteins. It deals with defects of translating of genetic code and their causes. In the next phase the course explains the translation of genetic information with diploid organisms (including humans) and rules which apply to combination of parent characteristics at reproduction process. A following part of the course focuses on human genetics. It deals with ethical-social specifics and eugenics. Next it explains basic research methods. It gives examples of most common genetically conditioned diseases and their symptoms.

  • 1. Molecular biology and molecular genetics.
    2. Amino acids and proteins - replication, transcription and translation.
    3. Regulation of gene expression.
    4. Mutation and its consequence.
    5. Cell reproduction - mitosis and meiosis.
    6. Meiosis and maturation of gametes.
    7. General genetics - basic terms.
    8. Laws of Mendelian inheritance.
    9. Gene sequence, heredity and sex.
    10. Human genetics.
    11. Observation methods in human genetic research.
    12. Genetically conditioned diseases.
    13. Genetic therapy, genetic engineering and eugenics.
