Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to develop knowledge and skills in the processes of information system implementation in health care. The subject provides information concerning computer-aided processes in health care, emphasizing standardization and normalization of data, pertinent legislative framework, description of communication interfaces, data security and protection, and interoperability of information systems in health care. On completion of the course, the students will be knowledgeable about the development, implementation and support of extensive information systems in health care. Further, they will be able to apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the analysis of issues related to electronization of health care in harmony with legislative arrangements.

  • 1. Introduction: aims and learning content of the course, literature and resources, outline of key terms and interrelations.
    2. Data, information, legislature and norms for information system implementation.
    3. Information and communication technology in health care.
    4. Comparison of eHealth implementation in the Czech Republic and EU countries.
    5. National registers and information systems in health care.
    6. Management of documentation in health care.
    7. Examples of good practice.

The credit is conditioned by a minimum of 80 % attendance. An essay on an assigned topic (5 to 7 pages) and its defence. Demonstration of skills in practicals.
