Course objectives
The course is conceived as a theoretical-practical one. The aim is to familiarize students with the use of diagnostic ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology. Students are familiarized with the difference between physiological and pathological ultrasound image and the basics of prenatal diagnosis during pregnancy. Another aim is to teach students basic skills in the context of ultrasound examination of women during pregnancy, during labour and in the postpartum period.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Students know the basic methods of ultrasound examination.
Professional skills: Students can recognize and navigate fetal biometry.
General Qualification: Students are familiar with biometry of the fetus and with the presentation of the fetus.
Competences: Having completed the course, students can perform an ultrasound examination in cooperation with a physician.
Syllabus
  • 1. Ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus and its functions.
  • 2. Basic methods of ultrasound examination.
  • 3. System of prenatal screening for congenital defects in the fetus
  • 4. Basic ultrasound examination procedures.
  • 5. Ultrasound diagnosis of pregnancy, localization, proof of fetal heartbeat.
  • 6. Biometrics of the fetus - crown-rump length, biparietal diameter, head circumference, chest circumference, length of the
  • 7. femur, proof of fetal motions.
  • 8. Ultrasound velocimetry, ultrasound cervicometry
  • 9. Determining the amount of amniotic fluid, localization of the placenta
  • 10. Fetus in the uterine cavity. Use of ultrasound in gynecology.
