Course objectives
Course Annotation: The course is conceived as a theoretical-practical one. It is part of the complex of courses which profiled graduate to work in primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare sector. It enables students to acquire professional knowledge of supporting and maintaining health by following a healthy lifestyle in different periods of human life. It introduces to the problems of addiction, its risks, prevention, treatment and aftercare. Students gain knowledge for effective education and provision of information on the risks ascertained and in case of direct threat to the health of individuals, families and communities.
Learning outcomes
Competences: Students can explain the role of midwives
Expertise: knowledge of the importance of health education and its integration into the healthcare system,
Professional skills: students understand health education as an integral part of prevention in all age groups of the individual and in various communities with regard to ethnic differences
General qualification: Student are able to lead the individual to a healthy lifestyle
Competence - professional knowledge and skills in the field of education towards a healthy lifestyle and maintaining health.
Syllabus
  • 1. Health and disease, the definition of basic concepts, determinants of health, perception of health and illness, attitudes towards one’s own health. 2. Lifestyle. 3. Stress. 4. Health education, preventive programs in the Czech Republic. 5. Movement, receipt and distribution of nutrition, excess weight, obesity and their risks. 6. Eating disorders. 7. Addictive substances, alcohol, nicotine. 8. Drugs, addiction, treatment, preventive programs. 9. Education towards healthy sex life. 10. Sexual abuse, prostitution. 11. Bullying, cyberbullying, social networks and their risks. 12. Coping with life’s difficulties. Economic dependence. 13. -20. Presentation of prevention programs, model situations.

Fulfilment of 80% instruction attendance (students who could not attend compulsory instruction for serious reasons will be assigned an alternative way of fulfilling their study requirements).
