Course objectives
The course is conceived as a theoretical-practical one. The course is part of a complex group of vocational profiling courses. It enables students to acquire knowledge about medical history, examination and laboratory methods with the application of the process of providing midwifery care in clinical fields, particularly in gynecology, obstetrics and neonatology. Emphasis is placed on physical examination of the client and their newborn child. The course includes acquisition of the ability to distinguish and diagnose potential risks.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Student know the basic examination methods in gynecology and obstetrics.
Professional Skills: Students can prepare and educate a woman for gynecological and obstetric examinations.
General Qualification: Student can carry out and assist in obstetric and gynecological examinations.
Competences: Students are well versed in the investigative methods, physical examination performed by clients (eyes, auscultation, percussion, palpation).
Syllabus
  • Lectures:
  • 1. Medical history and basic examination methods - sight, palpation, auscultation, percussion.
  • 2. Basic findings (standard and pathology) on the head, neck, chest and thoracic organs.
  • 3. Basic findings (standard and pathology) on the abdomen and abdominal organs.
  • 4. Basic findings (standard and pathology) on the limbs.
  • 5. Assessing the overall health status of women.
  • 6. Evaluation of the health status of women in the peripartum period.
  • 7. Prenatal diagnosis, prenatal examinations.
  • 8. Gynecological examination.
  • 9. Technical equipment and usage in obstetrics.
  • 10. Technical equipment and usage in gynecology
  • Instruction:
  • 1. Basic physical examination (sight, palpation, auscultation, percussion).
  • 2. Examination of the head, neck and oral cavity, examination of the chest, heart and lungs.
  • 3. Examination of extremities, examination of the genital organs of women.
  • 4. Biochemical, endocrinological, bacteriological and serological testing in pregnancy.
  • 5. Biochemical, endocrinological, bacteriological and serological examinations during labour and after the birth.
  • 6. Obstetric examination in prenatal care - risk assessment.
  • 7. Obstetric examination at birth - risk assessment.
  • 8. Instrumental diagnosis in obstetrics - risk assessment.
