- Course objectives
- The subject aims at helping students learn the basics of terminology of anatomical structures and organ systems in the human body. Anatomy constitutes the springboard for further studies of physiology, pathological physiology, pathological anatomy and other clinical disciplines. The subject is a part of the set of compulsory subjects.
- Syllabus
- Lectures:
1. The structure of the human body. The structure of the cell and cell differentiation. Types of tissues and their key histological characteristics.
2. The musculoskeletal system 1. Osteology and arthrology: the skeleton and articulations of the limbs. The skull, temporomandibular joint. The trunk and spine. Topography of lumbar puncture.
3. The musculoskeletal system 2. Myology: overview of muscle groups, their function and innervation. Topography of intramuscular injections.
4. The cardiovascular system. 1. Greater and lesser blood circulation, blood. The heart - basic structure, coronary arteries, heart valves and auscultation points. Pericardial puncture. The capillary system.
5. The cardiovascular system 2. Overview of arteries and veins in the head, trunk and limbs. Palpation points and pressure points. Arterial and venous bleeding. The lymphatic system, the spleen. Major regional lymph nodes. The immune system.
6. The respiratory system. Upper and lower respiratory tract. The lungs and pleura. The mediastinum.
7. The digestive system 1. Oral cavity, teeth, major salivary glands. The structure and function of the alimentary canal. The pharynx, oesophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, appendix. Anatomical foundations of hernias.
8. The digestive system 2. Liver, biliary tract and bile, pancreas. Digestive enzymes, insulin. Developmental aberrations in the digestive tract. Endocrine glands.
9. The urinary system. The kidneys, their structure and function. The excretory urinary duct: ureters, urinary bladder, male and female urethra.
10. The female reproductive system. The uterus, ovaries, vagina, vulva. Examination per vaginam.
11. The male reproductive system. Testes and their descent, spermatic cord and accessory glands. Topography of the prostate. Penis, erection and erectile dysfunction.
12. The nervous system. Central nervous system: basic terms, brain structure, spinal cord structure, cranial and spinal membranes. Grey and white matter of the brain, primary cerebral centres. Sensory and motor nerve fibres. Autonomic nervous system. Cerebrospinal fluid and its circulation.
13. The nervous system 2. Peripheral nervous system: spinal cord nerves and plexuses. Cranial nerves I - XII, their topography and innervation areas.
14. Sensory organs, principles of structure and function. The skin and skin adnexa. The mamma, its structure and function, breast discharge.
Seminars and practicals:
1. Basics of cytology and histology of organ systems. Structure of connective tissue (fibrous tissue, cartilage, bone). Structure and function of transversely striped muscles. Bone interconnections and joints, simple and compound joints and their movement.
2. Structure of arterial and venous walls, blood and lymph capillaries. Foetal blood circulation. Structure of the myocardium, cardiac skeleton, structure and function of heart valves. Blood, blood groups, blood clotting, formed elements of the blood and their function. Principles of immune reaction in blood and lymph.
3. Structure and function of the pharynx, voice production. Structure of the trachea and bronchi. Bronchopulmonary segment, structure of the alveoli, respiratory gas exchange.
4. Microscopic structure of the alimentary canal, differences between its segments. Principles of digestion and absorption.

Information on the extent and intensity of the course: Přednáška 10 HOD/SEM. - Teacher's information
- Contact hours are based on consultation of selected topics. Non-contact hours are realized via an e-learning environment available at http://elearning.fvp.slu.cz/. At the website, students can use learning materials with on-line assignments. Credits are granted upon successful completion based on a written or an oral assessment where the student demonstrates knowledge of compulsory and recommended literature and discusses their on-line assignments. The student can consult the mentor concerning independently studied topics, be it in person, in group sessions or via e-mail.
Requirements for credit: written test
Requirements for examination: oral test, a minimum of 80 % correct answers.
