Course objectives
The course is conceived as a theoretical-practical one with majority in practical activities. The course provides skills and knowledge concerning rehabilitation procedures usable in the work of midwifery practitioners. The goal is to gain medical, social, economic and other knowledge intended to improve or maintain functional fitness of women, newborns and infants.
Learning outcomes
Professional Knowledge: Students can describe and explain basic terminology of rehabilitation and phisiotherapy.
Professional Skills: Students can practice postural and locomotive functions, positioning, verticalization.
General Qualification: Students are able to decide independently and choose procedures in the exercise in each trimester of pregnancy and exercise after childbirth responsibly.
Competences: Students conduct exercises in each trimester of pregnancy and exercise after childbirth.

  • 1. Definition of rehabilitation and physiotherapy, basic terminology
  • 2. Objectives and methodological principles of an exercise session. Fitness exercise
  • 3. Introduction to breathing gymnastics - static and dynamic. Introduction to relaxation - overall, local
  • 4. Active and passive physiotherapy
  • 5. Practice of postural and locomotive functions, positioning, verticalization
  • 6. Introduction to physical therapy, the effects of physical stimuli
  • 7. Introduction to occupational therapy
  • Exercises
  • 1. Practicing relaxation. Practicing passive movements in individual joints
  • 2. Fitness exercise
  • 3. Classic massage
  • 4. Breathing exercises Training of verticalization. Practice of changing the position and of positioning
  • 5. Practicing individual performance in physical therapy. Practicing self-sufficiency

Assessment methods
Fulfilment of 80% instruction attendance (students who cannot attend compulsory instruction for serious reasons will be assigned an alternative way of fulfilling their study requirements) and passing a written test for credit.
