Course objectives
Course aim is to provide students positive and negative experience of business history of economic, social and political development with an emphasis on period of the First Republic 1918-1938. The course shows business results by sectors and presents the most significant Czechoslovak enterprises and its main representatives. It also includes basic features of centrally planned economies development after Second World War, and outlined basic features of economic transformation after 1989.

  • 1. Business as a form of economic human self-realization and his development in terms of Czechoslovakia after 1918
    2. Free enterprise and competition rules in the interwar period
    3. The role of banks in the business of the First Republic
    4. Industrial enterprises and craft production in 1918-1938
    5. Commercial business in the interwar period
    6. State-owned enterprises in the First Republic
    7. The most significant Czech entrepreneurs in the era of the First Republic
    8. Economic cycles of Czechoslovak economy in the interwar period
    9. Business in conditions of the Nazi occupation regime
    10. Power intervention into Czechoslovak economy and market mechanism 1945-1948
    11. Start of five-year plans and the destruction of private enterprise
    12. Economic reforms of the second half of the 60th years and a return to the centrally planned economy in the coming decades
