Course objectives

The course focuses on current concepts and theoretical-methodological approaches to Czech and Czechoslovak history ranging from the Middle Ages through the early modern period to modern history. The subject assumes a thorough factographic knowledge of Czech and Czechoslovak history in Central Europe, acquired in undergraduate studies. The subject is problem-oriented and its content is adapted according to the doctoral student's specialization. It emphasizes understanding and ability to present a wide spectrum of academic discourse, including foreign-language works. The doctoral student is led to reflect on the current state of knowledge in relation to methodology. The examination board chooses questions with regard to the topic of the dissertation.
