Course objectives
The course is focused on general problems of phonetics with the aim to present the correct pronunciation in Italian as well as the basic problems of the production and perception of the speech. The course is closely connected with the course of phonetic seminar.
Learning outcomes
To use the basic terminology, classification of Italian phones, description of the vocalic and consonant system in Italian, phonetic transcription.

  • 1. Phonetics within the framework of linguistics
    2. Phonetic transcription
    3. Characteristics of the pronunciation in Italian
    4. Classification of the sounds in Italian according to the place and manner of articulation
    5. Classification of vowels
    6. Italian diphthongs. Semivowels.
    7. Classification of consonants.
    8. Segmentation of speech
    9. Position of accent
    10. Intonation
    11. Prosodic features: intonation
    12. Modifications in the Italian Sound system
    13. Rafforzamento, elision, troncamento
