- Course objectives
- Detailed characteristics of aim, content and methods of diplomatics and palaeography as scientific disciplines in the frame of historical research, improvement of the knowledge considering the development of writing in the Latin cultural area and the development of diplomatic material and offices in Middle Ages and early modern period with a special regard to the Czech Lands. Practical practising of reading (transcription, transliteration), analysis and criticism of especially written sources, determination of information potential, credibility and universal employment of sources (documents, desky zemske/Land tables, documents of central/royal, or alternatively state/urban, church and nobility provenance) for political, economic, social and cultural history of Middle Ages and early modern period. Under the guidance of the lecturer, processing of diplomatic material for the needs of edition accessibility, independent work with editions concerning the history of the Czech Lands.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to categorize and analyze various types of diplomatic material, to identify the publisher, type of document, type of font, means of verification, etc. Student will gain the basics information on diplomatic material and its elaboration in the form of edition.

- Processing of edition of diplomatic material in accordance with the principles of critical historiography (introduction, editor note, the edition itself including footnotes, indexes).
Written test aimed at the basic terminology and development of writing and diplomatic material in the Czech Lands including editions of diplomatic material.
Active participation in seminars, 90% compulsory attendance of seminars, continuous fulfilment of assigned tasks (oral, written).
