Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to equip students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of education of children and pupils with more severe degrees of mental disability, a combination of disabilities and autism spectrum disorders with a focus on educational and intervention processes.
Learning outcomes
Expertise:
- the student can characterize a child, a pupil with a moderate, severe and profound mental disability, a combination of disabilities, disorders of the autistic spectrum and specifics related to these disabilities within the framework of educational and intervention reality
- the student is able to work with legislative norms concerning school issues, social policy, coordinated rehabilitation concerning this group of children and pupils
- the student can describe the specifics of the education of children and pupils with more severe degrees of mental disability, a combination of disabilities, disorders of the autistic spectrum
- the student can describe the system of counseling services for children and pupils with more severe degrees of mental disability, a combination of disabilities, disorders of the autistic spectrum
- the student knows the basic didactic, intervention and therapeutic approaches used in the educational process of children and pupils with more severe degrees of mental disability, a combination of disabilities, disorders of the autistic spectrum
Specific expertise:
- the student can characterize the methods and forms of teaching for the education of pupils with mental disabilities based on the new findings of science

- the student can define the special educational needs of children and pupils with more severe degrees of mental disability, a combination of disabilities, disorders of the autistic spectrum
- the student can evaluate the education strategy of children and pupils with more severe degrees of mental disability, a combination of disabilities, disorders of the autistic spectrum
- the student can analyze the educational process for the target group of children and pupils with more severe degrees of mental disability, a combination of disabilities, disorders of the autistic spectrum
- the student is able to apply special methods and forms of work to children and pupils with more severe degrees of mental disability, a combination of disabilities, disorders of the autistic spectrum within the framework of recommendations for support measures and their use in the educational process
Specific professional skills:
- the student can independently apply psychopedic methods of stimulation, education, re-education, compensation of pupils educated in a special primary school
- the student is able to provide specialized care to persons with mental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders using selected rehabilitation methods in cooperation and in connection with other disciplines
General qualifications:
- the student is able to independently apply procedures in the educational process of children and pupils with more severe degrees of mental disability, a combination of disabilities, disorders of the autistic spectrum, taking into account their individual capabilities
- the student is able to independently apply strategies leading to the solution of problem behavior and problem situations of children and pupils with more severe degrees of mental disability, a combination of disabilities, disorders of the autistic spectrum in the educational process
- the student is able to characterize the methods and forms of teaching for this group of children and pupils based on the new findings of science
- the student is able to independently formulate and present the achieved educational results and possibly reflect them in his pedagogical practice

  • 1. Theory of education of pupils with mental disabilities, terminological starting points. Personality of a pupil with moderate, severe and profound mental disabilities
  • 2. Symptomatic speech disorders, alternative and augmentative systems of communication used by children and pupils with mental disabilities from the point of view of a counseling special pedagogue
  • 3. Education system, preparatory level, elementary special school, secondary and lifelong education. Job opportunities
  • 4. Counseling services for pupils with mental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and simultaneous disabilities with multiple disabilities. Communication in counseling
  • 5. Framework educational program for preschool education. Framework educational program for the field of education, elementary special school
  • 6. Special pedagogic diagnostics focusing on pupils with moderate, severe and profound mental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and simultaneous disabilities with multiple disabilities from the point of view of a consulting special pedagogue

Assessment methods
Preparation, implementation and presentation of a project focused on the educational reality or diagnostic process of a selected student with a more severe degree of mental disability, a combination of disabilities or an autistic spectrum disorder. The presentation of the completed project is a condition for registering for the oral exam. Oral exam.
