Course objectives
The course is a profiling vocational theoretical and practical course which includes comprehensive knowledge of care of women in all age categories, with a focus on the physiology of pregnancy and care of women in prenatal counselling and prenatal classes.
Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes: students know the basic aspects of care of women of child-bearing period and of pregnant women.
Professional Knowledge: Students demonstrate knowledge of basic concepts in obstetrics.
Professional Skills: Students can plan and perform care of a woman with a physiological pregnancy.
General Qualification: Students are familiar with prenatal care of pregnant women.
Competences: Students are able to make informed planing of prenatal care of women with a physiological pregnancy
Syllabus
  • 1. Planned parenthood, fertilization, implantation, fetal development in the uterus, placenta, amniotic fluid containers, amniotic fluid - development, morphology, function.
  • 2. Preparing women for pregnancy.
  • 3. Pregnancy changes to the female body, regimen of pregnant women
  • 4. Pregnancy counselling - course of normal pregnancy, proper dating, individual examinations during pregnancy, medical history in obstetrics as part of the medical records,
  • 5. Obstetric examination methods - fundamentals of ultrasound diagnostics in pregnancy, physical obstetric examination at different stages of pregnancy and childbirth.
  • 6. biochemical and microbiological examinations in obstetrics
  • 7. Obstetric examination methods - prenatal diagnosis of congenital defects - non-invasive and invasive methods
  • 8. Obstetric examination methods - cardiotocography, fetal pulse oximetry, ST analysis, genetic counselling and clinical genetics
  • 9. Obstetric investigation - situs, positio, presentatio, habitus, diagnostics of the fetal position in the uterus, obstetric findings.
  • 10. Admission of women in labour, obstetric documentation, medical history, antenatal preparation, postpartum care.

Assessment methods
Fulfilment of 80% instruction attendance (students who cannot attend compulsory instruction for serious reasons will be assigned an alternative way of fulfilling their study requirements) and passing a written test.
