Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to acquire knowledge related to people of the target groups: speech therapy, hearing therapy, ophthalmology. It will include an outline of the historical development of scientific fields and current current trends. Emphasis will be placed on orientation in professional terminology and biopsychosocial conditions of socialization. The aim of the subject is to familiarize with the classification, characteristics and basic features of target group people, their education and counseling for their socialization.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- have basic knowledge of speech therapy, hearing therapy, ophthalmology,
- have an overview of historical development,
- know basic concepts, characteristics of target group people.
Syllabus
  • Speech therapy, hearing therapy, ophthalmology - basic terms, meaning, historical development. (Subtopics: the position of speech therapy in the system of sciences).
  • Basic categories, conditions, peculiarities and course of socialization processes of target groups. (Subtopics: current trends in the upbringing and education of people with hearing impairment).
  • Methods and means of education of target groups. (Subtopics: primary speech therapy prevention).
  • Communication and communication styles, methods and techniques, including the means used in communication by people of target groups. (Subtopics: methodological approaches in the education and training of persons with hearing impairment, the effects of severe visual impairment on the life of an individual, rules of communication with individuals with visual impairment).
  • Characteristics of target groups in the field of speech therapy. (Subtopics: ontogenetic development of speech, delayed speech development).
  • Characteristics of the target groups in the field of deafpedia.
  • Characteristics of target groups in the field of ophthalmology.
  • System of institutional care for persons of target groups.
  • Consulting of target groups, diagnostics. (Subtopics: diagnostics in education, compensatory mechanisms for visually impaired people).
  • School education of persons of target groups. (Subtopics: overview of 1st and 2nd level support measures for students with impaired communication skills, aids for hearing impaired people in education, recommendations for working with the blind).
