Course objectives
The course aims to provide students with the ultimate knowledge and skills that apply not only to the elaboration of their thesis, but also to their professional life in the context of screening. Students acquire knowledge, skills and competence in methodology of andragogical and gerontagogického research. The course is focused not only on the acquisition of expertise (terminology), but mainly on its application in practice.
Learning outcomes
Professional knowledge: Students can explain the difference between quantitative and qualitative research in the context of persons of pre-senior and senior age. They can enumerate and characterize the various techniques and methods of data collection.

Professional skills: Students can create a project of their intended research for their bachelor's thesis, applying the knowledge gained in the course.

General qualification:Students can use the acquired knowledge and skills in the context of various target groups of persons of pre-senior and senior age and in the context of the thematic focus of the research.
Syllabus
  • 1. Andragogical and gerontagogical research - definition, types of research, applied research, ethical aspects of research
  • 2. Specifics of research with people of pre-senior and senior age.
  • 3. Qualitative and quantitative research - differences, application in concrete examples
  • 4. Choosing the research problem, formulation of research questions, hypothesis formulation
  • 5. The selection of respondents - probabilistic and non-probabilistic respondent selection methods
  • 6. Techniques and methods of data collection I. - questionnaire, interview (types, structure, question choice)
  • 7. The techniques and methods of data collection II. - observation and Q-methodology
  • 8. The techniques and methods of data collection III. – content analysis
  • 9. Processing and statistical evaluation of quantitative data - mode, median, standard deviation, nominal variance, chi-square, contingency coefficient, sign scheme
  • 10. Statistical evaluation of collected quantitative data in Microsoft Excel
  • 11. Coding and creation of system of categories - coding (open, selective, axial)
  • 12. Processing and evaluation of qualitative data - simple enumeration method, showdown method, pattern recognition method, clustering method.
  • 13. Presentation of the data obtained in the qualification work, the content of the final research report
