Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the terminology of occupational therapy and its use in the practice of a special pedagogue.

- the student is able to define terms from occupational therapy

- the student is able to use professional terminology

- the student is able to orientate in professional terminology and use the acquired knowledge in practice

  • 1. Occupational therapy basic definitions and concepts.
  • 2. Bases of current occupational therapy practice.
  • 3. Occupational therapy - and its use in the practice of a special pedagogue.
  • 4. Evaluation in occupational therapy.
  • 5. Selected occupational therapy procedures in children.
  • 6. Occupational therapy for seniors.
  • 7. Occupational therapy for people with musculoskeletal disorders.
  • 8. Testing in occupational therapy - types of grips.
  • 9. Importance of ADL (Activities of Daily Living).
  • 10. Wheelchair training indoors and outdoors.
  • 11. Basics of art techniques.
  • 12. Compensatory aids in occupational therapy.

A presentation with a practical demonstration is a condition for registering for the credit. Written test according to evaluation indicators.

Teacher's information
In course of continuous study, students use the study material, processing it to fulfil selected correspondence assignments which will be discussed in conclusion of the course. At the exam, students demonstrate knowledge of compulsory literature and lectures of the in-person instruction. Students will be able to continuously consult the topics studied individually or in teams, via e-mail, or in consultations upon request.
