Course objectives
The objective of the course is to familiarize students with the field of senior interest-based education and to reflect on its significance for the development of both the individual and society. Senior interest-based education is considered within the context of lifelong learning, with special attention given to its practical application in the area of leisure educational activities for seniors. The course will describe both the current and past situations in the educational market, characterize various types of interest-based education, and provide an overview of the main institutions involved in this field. Additionally, the use of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) tools, will be introduced as a means to support effective and accessible education for seniors.
Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to familiarize students with the field of senior interest-based education and to reflect on its significance for the development of both the individual and society. Senior interest-based education is considered within the context of lifelong learning, with special attention given to its practical application in the area of leisure educational activities for seniors. The course will describe both the current and past situations in the educational market, characterize various types of interest-based education, and provide an overview of the main institutions that are involved in this field.

  • Interest-Based Education for Seniors: Definition of interest-based education. Basic characteristics of interest-based education. Goals and functions of interest-based education. Didactic Aspects of Senior Interest-Based Education: Methods, forms, and didactic tools.
  • Specifics of Senior Education: Motivation for senior interest-based education. Characteristics of senior learning.
  • Barriers to Senior Interest-Based Education: Prejudices, stereotypes, and myths. Opportunities and limitations of senior education. Educational opportunities.
  • Historical Context of Senior Interest-Based Education: Current state of senior interest-based education. Senior interest-based education in the Czech Republic and abroad.
  • Participants in Senior Interest-Based Education: Interests and needs of seniors.
  • Specifics of Seniors as Participants in Interest-Based Education: Bio-psycho-social-spiritual changes in older age.

Teaching methods
Lectures: Theoretical instruction focused on key concepts and topics in the field of senior interest-based education.
Individual and Group Assignments: Practical activities aimed at solving specific tasks, both individually and in teams.
Independent Work: Students will be required to work independently outside of the classroom, preparing presentations, conducting research, and applying learned concepts in practice.
Presentations: Students will prepare and present topics related to senior interest-based education, both individually and in groups.
Assessment methods
Projects: Students will be evaluated based on three projects focused on the practical application of knowledge gained during the course.
Exam: The course will conclude with a final exam, which will assess students' understanding of theoretical concepts and their ability to apply them in practice.
