Course objectives
The aim of the course is to equip students with the basic knowledge, skills and competences needed to understand the elementary contexts of special pedagogic research and to prepare students for the creation of their own final written work. Another goal is to provide information and instructions for the preparation of the final written work in the theoretical and practical part. The subject is mainly based on the student's independent work and ongoing consultations on individual parts of the final written work. At the beginning of the semester, there will be an introductory meeting, where students are collectively introduced to the formal and content/methodological principles of the preparation of the final written work. During the semester, there are individual consultations between the student and the supervisor of the final written work aimed at clarifying the topic, orientation in information sources, acquisition and study of the initial bibliography on the topics, proposal of the structure of the work, formulation of objectives, clarification and selection of methods, processing of the theoretical part of the work and research project.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- acquire the basics of special education research and project plans,
- be able to use the method of quantitative or qualitative research in practice when preparing the final written work,
- be able to interpret the results obtained from a research investigation,
- prepare the final thesis under the supervision of the supervisor.

  • Introduction to the methodology of science, the basics of special education research. (Subtopics: guidelines for preparing the final thesis, manuals for entering the topic of the final thesis).
  • Typology of research strategies, procedure, method, technique.
  • Fundamentals of quantitative research, quantitative research techniques.
  • Fundamentals of qualitative research, qualitative research techniques.
  • Quantity, quality and mixed research, operationalization of research objectives. (Subtopics: case history, outline of case history).
  • Univariate and bivariate analysis, interpretation of data and research results.
