- Course objectives (in Czech)
- The aim of the course is to deepen and expand the theoretical knowledge of statistics and operational analysis from master’s studies, specifically to present modern mathematical-statistical methods, multi-criteria decision-making methods, and qualitative research methods, with regard to applications in the economic field, especially marketing, management, and finance. The aim is also to acquire the relevant computational skills with adequate software tools on the computer (Excel, Stata, Eviews, SPSS, etc.).
- Learning outcomes (in Czech)
- After completing the course, the PhD student will:
- have extensive knowledge of all basic concepts of modern mathematical-statistical methods, multi-criteria decision-making methods, and qualitative research methods;
- understand modern mathematical-statistical methods, multi-criteria decision-making methods, and qualitative research methods;
- be able to apply modern mathematical-statistical methods, multi-criteria decision-making methods, and qualitative research methods, particularly in the economic field (marketing, management, finance, etc.). - Syllabus (in Czech)
- 1. Statistical Methods for Economic Data Analysis and Quality Management
Statistical hypothesis testing (t-test for the mean and t-test for means, two-sample F-test of equality of variances). Univariate regression and correlation analysis. Multivariate regression analysis. Analysis of variance (ANOVA). Basics of experiment design. Quality management and assessment of the production process. - 2. Econometric Analysis of Time Series
Basic approaches to specific problems of time series analysis. Decomposition principles of time series analysis in economics. Box-Jenkins methodology: ARIMA and SARIMA models. Multivariate time series models. Cointegration of time series. Linear regression model and dynamic models, outlier, panel data analysis. - 3. Multi-Criteria Evaluation and Decision-Making Methods
Multi-criteria decision-making methods. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Methods of decision-making under risk and uncertainty. Use of Excel and of the Application to Support Analytical Decision-Making to solve multi-criteria decision-making problems. - 4. Qualitative Research Methods
Qualitative and mixed research methods. Qualitative research approaches. Case study. Methods of collecting qualitative data (qualitative interviewing, observation, document collection, data mining from documents and artefacts). Research validity. Qualitative data analysis. Preparation, coding, and visualization of data. Research report. Secondary data analysis and meta-analysis.

- Assessment methods (in Czech)
- Oral examination: presentation/defence of the seminar paper (composed of three parts) and a discussion (on each part of the seminar paper). During the discussion, the PhD student must demonstrate knowledge of basic concepts, an understanding of modern mathematical-statistical methods, multi-criteria decision-making methods, and qualitative research methods, as well as the ability to apply these methods, particularly in the economic field.
